Mass killings and ethnic cleansing have often been parts of many wars. Misunderstanding a culture, spread of misinformation and self-supremacy are major causes why armies and nations resort to genocides, often of their own people. The Armenian genocide in the Russian Caucasus region was a result of such misunderstanding and was linked to the Great War. The two sides in the conflicts of the Great War were the Central Powers (comprised of Germany, Austria and Hungary) and the Entente Powers (comprised of Britain, France, Russia and Serbia).
